I joined Uber in 2012 as one of its early employees, tasked with launching and growing the ride-hailing business in France. Over the following years, I took on broader responsibilities, eventually leading Uber’s operations across EMEA and then all markets outside North America. Uber’s global expansion was fast, complex and often controversial - a period marked by intense growth, regulatory challenges and deep organisational change. It was a time that tested every muscle of leadership: scaling operations across 70+ countries, navigating political and legal headwinds, and guiding teams through uncertainty on the path to becoming a public company.
In 2020, I took the helm of Uber’s Delivery division, best known as Uber Eats. At the time, the business was heavily loss-making and faced widespread investor skepticism about its long-term viability. Over the next five years - and through the turbulence of a global pandemic - I helped grow the business fivefold, bringing it to profitability and establishing it as a core pillar of Uber’s global platform, roughly matching the scale of its Mobility segment (c. 90bn$ annualised GMV).
Building a startup is a daily grind, but every decision should still serve the long game.
What sparks joy for me is seeing exceptional people come together to tackle bold ideas - the kind that can truly move our planet and society forward. I love that moment when optimism turns infectious, when belief becomes action, and when ambition starts translating into real, tangible impact.
